Bank for International Settlements (BIS)
International organization which fosters international monetary and financial cooperation and serves as a bank for central banks. Importantly, it acts as a prime counterparty for central banks in their financial transactions and also acts as an agent or trustee in connection with international financial operations. The BIS is involved with the Basel Committee and Basel Accords. Its goal is to act as a financial safety net through strong regulation and supervision.
